Questions about the planning process

Learn what to expect before you begin.

This page provides clear answers about access, timing, collaboration, pricing, coaching, and what you will have when the process is complete.

Who is this for?

Nonprofit Strategic Planner is built specifically for nonprofits with annual budgets under $2 million, including executive directors, board chairs, development directors, and program leaders who need a real strategic plan without the budget for a consultant-led process.

Are Phases 0–3 really free? What is the catch?

Phases 0–3 are available free, with no time limit and no credit card required. By the time you reach the paywall, you will have completed four phases of real strategic work.

I do not have a .org or .edu email. Can I still participate?

International organizations, NGOs, and universities may request access from the sign-up page, and approved organizations are added to the access list.

How long does it take?

Most organizations complete the 11-phase plan in four to eight weeks, working two to three hours per week. Progress saves automatically and there is no deadline.

Who should participate in strategic planning?

Most nonprofits do best with a small working team supported by broader stakeholder consultation. The board sets direction and approves the plan; staff supply operational reality.

What makes this different from a template?

While templates provide empty boxes, the Planner provides a guided process with expert prompts and contextual coaching designed to examine vague thinking and build a usable plan.

What does the downloadable plan look like?

You receive a polished Word document with a cover page, table of contents, and your completed work organized by phase, ready for your board and funders.

Can more than one person use it?

The plan owner can invite up to five team members with Editor or Viewer roles, which keeps everyone in one shared, current plan.

What does the coaching look like?

Every section includes contextual coaching grounded in organizational development best practices. It encourages specificity, equity, and a clear assessment of organizational capacity.

When does written review or a live session happen?

Written review unlocks after all 11 phases are complete. Live sessions and retainers are scheduled personally after purchase.
